Nephila jurassica, was a member of a family of spiders, known as the Niphilidae. This includes the well-known golden orb weavers. This large arachnid had a leg span that measured 15cm across. This 165 million year old spider from Mongolia makes the Nephila genus the longest ranging genus, time wise, known. Nephila female spiders, today, weave webs up to 1.5 meters across. If the same can be said for Nephila jurassica, than it would have weaved some of the biggest, strongest webs ever known, several meters across.
